Shiatsu
Miranda White is able to offer Shiatsu treatments by appointment
at Still Waters Holistic Centre.
What happens in a shiatsu treatment

A Shiatsu session lasts an hour and takes place on a futon on the floor.
The receiver should wear loose comfy clothing with trousers.

A case history is taken but much of the understanding of the recipient's body and mind comes through diagnosing as the treatment occurs .

The treatment includes gentle rocking, stretches and rotation of the joints. Pressure from Miranda's hands, feet and thumbs massage the muscles and move Ki (energy) though meridians (channels for the energy) around the body, moving blocks of Ki to give relief from pain and stiffness.

What are the benefits and who is it for

Shiatsu combines traditional Chinese massage, which existed even before acupuncture, with western physiotherapy. It is therefore an effective treatment for sports injuries, bad backs and RSI.

Shiatsu is non-evasive and individually tailored to meets each individual need. Gentle, nourishing treatments are very beneficial in the cases of chronic diseases. Having experienced breast-cancer herself, Miranda is happy to work along side conventional medicine to give relief from some of the symptoms as well as looking at  the underlying reasons for illness.

Shiatsu is fantastic during pregnancy: it helps nourish the mother and baby, and allows the mother  to connect with her unborn child. It also relieves many of the aches and pains associated with pregnancy, and is great in early labour. Miranda has two daughters who were born with ease under the influence of shiatsu!

Traditional Chinese Medicine is Holistic: This means that the link is made between body, mind and emotions. Stress, grief, depression, frustration, anger are eased with work on the meridians. Miranda has been trained in Reiki and uses Yoga relaxation and breathing techniques to enhance the shiatsu work in this area. The treatment will leave you feeling very relaxed.

In South London Miranda worked with shiatsu at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre.
Shiatsu will help re-balance the body and mind, supporting rehabilitation.

Miranda White's qualifications and experience

Miranda has been involved in the Holistic approach to life since diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998 when she was forced to revaluate her life. Shiatsu and Yoga helped through cancer treatments, the birth of her children and more recently divorce.

Miranda trained for three years at The European School of Shiatsu and Movement and received her Diploma in 2000. This school involved training in various martial arts and was inspired to bring fluid movement and strength to the body so that the treatment would be fully supportive.
Miranda is now training with the British Wheel of Yoga to become a yoga teacher. She has been teaching YogaBugs and Yogadup to kids and sees yoga as a way people can help themselves to health and happiness.

How much will this cost

Sessions cost £36 and are for an hour. This is, however, a guide only; some people may be able to afford more so support those who can afford less. Please talk to me if price is an issue and so that we can make it work.
